We finished the Room for our little one. Her larger room is in the "catch-all" spare bedroom in our house. Over the past 5 years since we have moved in, it has held all the extra junk (we don't use anymore) that L didn't seem to want to get rid of for one reason or another (I don't understand why we keep all of that crap).
It was going to be a super-sunny hot weekend originally. We planned to go to the spray park. However, when Saturday came, It was pouring rain all day instead. Not wanting to waste the weekend, we decided to finish getting the room together.
Our original plan called for expanding the closet opening out to it's maximum width (to more easily reach all the space in it). Replacing the carpeting. Fresh paint on the walls and a new ceiling fan/light to replace the broken one that has been installed since we moved in.
We ditched the expand the closet opening idea. It saved time and I didn't have to take a crash course in drywall and carpentry. We decided to just get a white paneled, bi-fold closet door that ended up being a perfect match for the ugly brown bi-fold door that was probably hanging on the closet since the mid seventies. We picked a nice nickel finished cabinet knob to compliment the door. The paint color we picked a very light violet for the walls, a perfect color for a child's room. We also picked up the most perfect fan for her room. It is a white fan with multi-colored pastel paddles. Very fun. The carpeting we are going to leave for later, when we have more scratch. We are still debating either new carpeting, hardwood or a well made laminate.
After we gathered all the items we needed at the home improvement store, we ordered some pizza for lunch and got the room ready for the painting. My in-laws came over to help with the painting and got it done in a little over 3 hours while R took a nap (Whew).
After that it was replacing the fan as the next task. You would think that just simply replacing a fan would be easy, but it wasn't. With how half-assed the electrical work is in our house we had all kind of zany situations happening. From the fan not working on the switch, to the switch controlling another room in the house! After a good few hours, we finally got the wiring straightened out and labeled for future reference.
Hanging the closet door was also easy, we used the existing hardware in the floor and just replaced the rail at the top with the new one. Boom.
We shifted the furniture around and she was able to sleep in her fresh new room last night. She has lots of room for more stuff now.
